Camping Gear for Babies

No, I’m not talking about portable heaters and satellite TV, this is gear designed for actual babies – the kind that crawl around on the ground and eat dirt. Camping gear for babies and toddlers has come a long way in the past five years. Here are some baby products that can make your next family camping adventure a more relaxing and enjoyable experience.

PopATot ($49.99)

PopATot activity center for camping with babiesI can remember the howls of protest from our son, being strapped into the stroller while his sisters got to run around the campsite. The PopATot  may not solve all of those issues, but your baby is sure to be happier in this, than a stroller.

The PopATot is for babies 6 to 18-months and provide a wide, stable base to keep your baby safe around the campsite, or the beach. The PopATot allows more freedom of movement than a highchair or a stroller and has clips for toys to keep your baby entertained. The PopATot folds-up just like a bag chair, so it’s easy to pack with the rest of your camping gear.

BOB Revolution Stroller ($359.99)

BOB Revolution strollerJust because you’ve got a growing family doesn’t mean you have to stop hitting the trails! To call it the “Hummer of strollers” does an injustice to the  BOB’s highly maneuverable design and super-comfortable ride, thanks to 16-inch wheels and 3-inches of suspension travel on the rear axle.

The 12-inch front wheel easily handles obstacles on the trail and swivels 360-degrees for maneuvering in tight spaces. The wheel can also be locked into the straight position, for more stability over rough terrain. If you have ever attempted to push a regular stroller over loose sand or gravel, you will immediately appreciate the high-floatation tires on the BOB Revolution.

Kelty FC 3.0 Child Carrier ($249.95)

Kelty FC 3.0 baby carrier for camping

The Kelty FC 3.0 is a lot more than just a child carrier. The patented kickstand provides a stable base, allowing the FC 3.0 to double as a handy camping highchair. As a carrier, though, the FC 3.0 is one of best for backcountry travel with your baby. The five-point harness is highly adjustable, for toddlers up to 50 pounds. The innovative sun and rain hood on the FC 3.0 will also protect your baby from wayward brush and branches.

Evenflo® BabyGo™ High Chair ($39.99)

Evenflo camping high chairThe BabyGo is the perfect camping high chair for parent on the go, providing a stable, lightweight solution for backcountry meal times. The BabyGo weighs less than 10 pounds and folds-up for easy transportation.

I wish the BabyGo would have been around when our kids were still babies. Until our kids could sit up in booster seats, which we attached to the picnic table benches, they were relegated to the umbrella stroller at mealtimes – so self feeding was not really an option. The BabyGo is a great solution for camping families and, best of all, it’s reasonably priced.

The best part about these baby camping gear products is that they also work great for all kinds of different situations, not just camping. Use the PopATot or BabyGo when visiting at other people’s houses, cruise the mall with the BOB or hit the zoo with the FC 3.0 – these products give you the freedom to do things together, and isn’t that what family life is all about?

  5. This is such great information! That highchair is really neat, I’m trying to remember how it was when my boys were growing up. That chair would have saved all kind of fusses.

  7. Hi Shawna, yes that looks like a really useful product since it is so portable. We always used a stroller as a “high chair,” which of course is cumbersome to pack around, doesn’t roll in the dirt and doesn’t keep the baby very happy (too confining).
